I have a hard time just accepting inhumanity. What we have here is half a story the way i see it. In less than 30 seconds (and a few sentences) you’ve developed a character and prestented a plot conflict. Wether you excellent film making skills or my inate wussiness I now have empathy for this bird. Please tell me you mentioned it to the owner and he moved the bird into another cage. Please tell me there is a “to be continued”

It’s probably a little late now, but if it would help you might explain it to him in terms of lost sales. People who come to buy are going to be rather turned off. The pet buying experience is one of bliss, such a crack in the blissful facade definitely couldn’t help sales.
